ICC convicts Central African militia leader Mahamat Said Abdel Kani of crimes against humanity

The ICC in The Hague convicted Mahamat Said Abdel Kani, 56, a Seleka militia commander, of crimes against humanity over torture at a Bangui detention centre during the 2013 civil war. Judges said he oversaw abuse, including whipping and waterboarding, of Bozize supporters at the Central Office for the Repression of Banditry, but acquitted him of three war crimes as fighting had ended. Sentencing is pending.
