Fighting widens across Ethiopia as Tigray clashes escalate into "full war"

Armed groups clashed with federal troops across northern Ethiopia as fighting escalated into what TPLF central committee member Abdisalam Balema called a "full war." The Tigray Army said the federal government launched a full-scale offensive involving infantry, mechanised units and drones, while former TPLF figure Getachew Reda, now an adviser to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, blamed the TPLF for starting the fighting. Tigrayan forces seized regional airports, prompting Ethiopian Airlines to suspend flights across Tigray, and reportedly captured Abala, a district capital in neighbouring Afar.
