Trump officials sending undocumented children to Texas sparks fears of mass deportation

The Trump administration has begun sending the vast majority of unaccompanied undocumented children with new immigration court cases to Texas, where shelters are unlicensed and legal representation is scarce. Analysis shared exclusively with the Guardian found that almost 80% of children in federal custody placed in immigration proceedings in July, and over 90% in August, were sent to the Republican-controlled state — 925 children in total, 651 of them in just those two months. Advocates fear the state has become a “deportation churn-out factory” and warn of threats to the children’s treatment and access to due process.
