Disaster zone declared across Bangkok as heavy rain triggers flooding

Bangkok authorities declared a disaster zone across all 50 districts after three consecutive days of rain; Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said almost 300mm (11.8 inches) had fallen since Thursday afternoon. Water inundated roads, canals, homes and stores, with the east hardest hit. On Saturday officials said flooding had stabilised but draining could take two or three days if rain stops.
