Ethiopian army says 272 Tigray fighters killed as conflict escalates in Amhara

Ethiopia’s National Defence Force said Thursday it killed at least 272 Tigray People’s Liberation Front fighters and wounded 260 in a counter-offensive in northwest Amhara after the TPLF and allies attacked North Wollo. TPLF vice president Amanuel Assefa told AFP Ethiopia is in “full-blown war,” with Tigrayan forces fighting alongside groups in Afar and Amhara days after the TPLF joined six other armed movements in an alliance to remove Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government.
