China cracks down on scam centres in neighbouring Myanmar

In Southeast Asia, hundreds of thousands of people in cross-border fraud centres are blamed for scams worth almost $10 billion a year against US nationals alone, with victims also in Europe, the UK and China. Human rights groups say many workers are trafficking victims forced into labour. As an International Conference on Combating Online Scams opens in Cambodia, China is moving to crack down on scam centres in neighbouring Myanmar.
