NASA to order two more Starliner missions and fund fixes to keep Boeing's capsule flying

NASA plans to announce as early as next week that it will order two additional crewed Starliner missions from Boeing, pay part of the costs to fix the spacecraft's thruster problems, and support certifying it for a new rocket. The move comes because SpaceX has signaled it intends to retire the Crew Dragon spacecraft, NASA's only operational vehicle for routine astronaut flights to low-Earth orbit, by 2030 or earlier as it pivots to Starship. Starliner currently flies on the Atlas V, which is retiring, and has a checkered flight record.
