Trump says U.S. carried out minor strikes on Iran amid reports missiles hit Qeshm Island
President Donald Trump told reporters Friday evening after landing in West Palm Beach, Florida, that the United States had carried out “minor strikes” on Iran, as Iranian news agency Tasnim reported, according to Reuters, that two missiles had hit Qeshm Island the same day. Tasnim said there was no official information on damage. The island lies off Iran’s southern coast near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil and gas route that has become a flashpoint in the war. Trump declined to discuss Qeshm specifically, saying he did not want to talk about it, but added that U.S. forces knock out targets in such operations and that they destroyed a newly built Iranian anti-aircraft installation in about five to fifteen minutes. He did not explicitly confirm that he was referring to the reported Qeshm strikes.
The action was the first since Tuesday’s midterm elections, after debate over whether the vote would push Trump toward further escalation or diplomacy. The United States had already struck the same island on Monday, in what a U.S. official told MS Now was a defensive measure. Trump also said Iran wants a deal “very badly,” citing 300 percent inflation and claiming its navy and airport were gone. The International Monetary Fund, in a report published October 13, forecast that Iran’s consumer prices would rise by an average of 78.6 percent in 2026. Asked whether he wanted a deal soon, he said nobody was getting hurt or killed, arguing the conflict might have lasted seven months but that serious fighting had lasted only three or four weeks, unlike the world wars. Iran has said it wants more than paper commitments. Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told state broadcaster IRIB on Friday, according to Press TV, that Tehran must see practical measures by the Americans.
