Hyundai Plans $15.5 Billion Investment in India by 2032
Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest $15.5 billion in India between 2026 and 2032, reinforcing the country’s role as a core market for its emerging-market growth. Announced after executive chair Euisun Chung met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the seven-year program will cover expanded manufacturing, research and development infrastructure, supplier development to increase parts localization, and future technologies. Hyundai will establish a dedicated Indian entity to carry out the investments.
The commitment comes as India’s passenger-vehicle market reaches new highs. Sales climbed to a monthly record of 439,000 units in August, up more than 36% from a year earlier, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. Hyundai sold 247,980 passenger cars in India from April through August, ranking third behind Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra, though it had finished fourth in the financial year ended March 2026 after also being overtaken by Tata Motors.
Hyundai currently has production capacity of 1.4 million vehicles across India and uses its factories there for exports as well as domestic sales. Its position in the country was further strengthened in 2024, when Hyundai Motors India raised $3.3 billion in India’s largest-ever initial public offering. Chung said the latest investment reaffirmed the group’s commitment to India for the next 30 years and beyond.
