World of Warcraft Forever breaks record peak players for a WoW launch
Blizzard Entertainment launched World of Warcraft Forever on 4 November, a reimagining of the nearly 22-year-old MMO that mixes original 2004 launch content with more modern visuals and controller support. The company said on X and Bluesky that the release drew the highest peak concurrent players of any World of Warcraft–related launch and the largest number of returning players. Polygon reported a smoother launch than some earlier Blizzard titles and said the mix also appeared to attract first-time players as well as people who had not played in years, outperforming Classic’s launch and later expansions in drawing players and keeping them.
Blizzard no longer publishes subscriber figures, so exact subscription totals are not public. Forever is available on Windows PC through the standard World of Warcraft subscription. The company plans ongoing support; associate production director Clayton Stone told Bloomberg it wants to continue as long as players do, citing unfinished raids, zones, dungeons, and stories.
