Pope decries scourge of sexual abuse during France visit

Pope Leo XIV told French bishops they took courageous steps against the scourge of abuse of minors before a scheduled meeting with survivors at Lourdes. About 150,000 attended his Mass there on the third day of his four-day visit; he was due to meet seven adult survivors later Sunday. A 2021 report found roughly 330,000 children abused by Catholic priests and lay leaders in France from 1950 to 2020.
