Yemen's recognised government orders general mobilisation against the Houthis

Yemen's internationally recognised government has called for general mobilisation against the Houthis. Rashad al-Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, made the appeal in his first speech since government forces were routed from the Red Sea coast, urging citizens to contribute to the fight and offering immediate amnesty to defecting Houthi fighters. In September the Houthis captured Mocha and Mayyun Island after the collapse of a 2022 truce that had paused 12 years of fighting, giving them control of Bab al-Mandeb. Al-Alimi pledged to recapture Sanaa, lost in 2014, and restore government sovereignty over all of Yemen.
