EU interior ministers meet in Munich on tighter migration and returns

Seventeen EU interior ministers met in Munich to advance a migration policy shift, refining the European Migration Pact, hardening external borders, and speeding returns. Germany, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands, and Greece will hold separate talks on deportation or return hubs in third countries; Germany aims for a deal in Africa or Asia by year-end. A spokesperson for Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said Frontex could become a border protection and return agency. Cologne and Munich are competing to bid for the Olympic Games.
