Glacier loss and shrinking rivers threaten global water security, WMO warns

The World Meteorological Organization reports that the world's rivers had one of their driest years in more than three decades in 2025, while glaciers kept retreating and freshwater reserves continued to shrink. The agency says climate change and rising water use are making the global water cycle more erratic, increasing the risk of both droughts and floods worldwide.
