Stephen Miller leads sweeping White House push to speed removal of migrant children

Stephen Miller, deputy White House chief of staff for immigration policy, is orchestrating a multi-agency effort across government departments to accelerate the removal of undocumented immigrant children from the US, the Guardian reports. Almost 200,000 children have been ordered removed by immigration judges since Trump returned to office in January 2025, roughly double the comparable number of such court orders, according to analysis of Department of Justice data by the advocacy group Mobile Pathways. Critics say the tactics are cruel, racist and in some cases flout federal law, as children are denied legal immigration pathways and forced out of the country.
