Iran warns renewed war with US could outlast previous conflict
Iran has warned that any renewed military conflict with the United States could outlast previous rounds of fighting, insisting Washington will not dictate the timing or terms of its conclusion. The remarks by army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia followed statements from President Donald Trump, who suggested the US could quickly destroy remaining targets, specifically pointing to the Pickaxe Mountain underground nuclear site. Echoing a message from supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Revolutionary Guards spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi cautioned that Iranian retaliation would observe no geographical boundaries across a vast regional theater.
The escalating friction comes ahead of Tuesday's US midterm elections, exposing strategic differences between Washington and its allies. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly pressed Trump during a direct call on Saturday to launch strikes immediately after the vote, while Trump favored allowing negotiations to unfold. Simultaneously, Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei confirmed receiving a letter from US Vice President JD Vance aimed at reviving diplomatic engagement. Tehran maintained, however, that it will neither enter formal talks nor reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz until Washington unfreezes Iranian assets abroad, ends its naval blockade of Iranian ports, lifts sanctions, and concludes the war on all fronts.
