Leaked documents show Russia's secret plan to boost kamikaze drone production

Documents obtained by POLITICO reveal plans by Russian state firm Rosatom's Alabuga-Volokno factory in Tatarstan to add 500 tons of military-grade aerospace carbon fiber capacity per year by 2029 — enough for roughly 28,000 additional weaponized drones annually, a 78% increase. Ukraine estimates Russia already produces more than 36,000 "Geran" kamikaze drones a year, including the type that struck a passenger train on the Polish border this month. The factory and its parent, Rosatom's UMATEX division, are under U.S., U.K. and other Western sanctions.
