Jay-Z Welcomes Blue Ivy Carter, DJ Khaled and John Legend at SoFi Stadium
Jay-Z turned the first of two headlining concerts at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, into a wide-ranging retrospective of his three-decade recording career. The roughly 90-minute set drew from across his extensive catalogue, bringing the sound and perspective of Brooklyn to the Los Angeles area through a succession of familiar songs.
The performance also featured appearances by Blue Ivy Carter, DJ Khaled and John Legend, giving the stadium show an added collaborative dimension. Late in the concert, Jay-Z asked the audience whether he could take them “home” before launching into “Empire State of Mind,” the song that most directly connected the California performance to New York. The moment captured the central thread of the evening: a major West Coast stadium production built around the music, identity and hits that Jay-Z has developed over 30 years.
