Yemeni Government Forces Advance in Marib as Houthi Attacks Hit Taiz
Yemeni government forces reported advances in Marib as the Saudi-backed coalition pressed ahead with its week-old “Dawn of Yemen” offensive. Troops said they had seized commanding heights around the Maas camp in Medghal district, as well as positions north of Harib, while aircraft, drones, artillery and rockets struck Houthi forces and reinforcements. Military spokesperson Colonel Majid al-Nuzaili claimed 1,879 strikes had killed or incapacitated 950 Houthi fighters and destroyed 380 vehicles, figures that were not independently verified.
The campaign follows major Houthi gains in September, including the capture of Mocha and territory near the Bab al-Mandeb shipping route. Presidential Leadership Council chairman Rashad al-Alimi said the offensive ultimately aims to recover all Houthi-held areas, including Sanaa, which the Iran-backed group has controlled since 2014.
Fighting also intensified around besieged Taiz, where government forces said they captured 81 Houthi fighters. The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented 43 violations in 24 hours, with five civilians killed and 17 wounded after more than 180 projectiles struck residential areas. A five-year-old girl was among those killed. Al-Safwa Hospital was also hit, injuring at least one person, as health authorities warned that medicines, medical supplies and fuel were nearing depletion.
