EU lawmakers push AI Liability Act to hold US tech firms accountable for model harm

Four senior European Parliament lawmakers want to expand the EU’s 2024 AI Act so American companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic can be held liable when their most advanced models cause harm. In a Sept. 16 note to the Commission, they called for an AI Liability Act to close legislative gaps; Dutch Green Party member Kim van Sparrentak said Europe must update its rules as AI risks multiply.
