US stocks rose sharply as more S&P 500 shares hit 52-week lows than highs

On Monday the Nasdaq Composite rose 2% to a record and the S&P 500 gained about 1.5%, finishing less than 1% below its high. Yet 30 S&P 500 stocks hit new 52-week lows while only seven reached fresh highs—the first time that split occurred on such a strong up day since 21 December 1999, and before that 23 July 1929, per analyst Jason Goepfert.
