At least 26 killed in intercommunal clashes in Sudan-South Sudan border region of Abyei

At least 26 people were killed and 82 injured in days of fighting between Ngok Dinka and Misseriya communities in the disputed Abyei region on the Sudan-South Sudan border, the UN said Thursday. The violence, at the Amiet Common Market, was triggered by the killings of a Ngok Dinka man on Monday and a Misseriya man on Tuesday. The UN's UNISFA force has reinforced security around Abyei town and is urging dialogue between community leaders, according to Lieutenant General Ganesh Kumar Shreshta.
