Slovakia's Fico questions NATO's Article 5, says he will not let the country be drawn into war

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Thursday in Prešov that he does not want Slovakia to be dragged into any military conflict because of NATO's Article 5, while insisting his country remains committed to the alliance. Article 5, which has been activated only once after the September 11, 2001 attacks, treats an armed attack on one of NATO's 32 members as an attack on all. Fico, one of Europe's most Kremlin-friendly leaders, warned that the risk of a pan-European military conflict is at its most serious level yet; the remarks deepen concern in Europe as tensions with Russia escalate.
