Gunmen kill 27 in two mass shootings at South African taverns

At least 27 people died in overnight shootings in Gauteng and Western Cape. In Wedela, west of Johannesburg, gunmen killed 17 and wounded 15 at a bar on Saturday about 9:30 p.m.; police seek eight men who searched patrons, took cellphones, and fled in two vehicles with AK-47s and pistols. At Lwandle near Cape Town, 10 were killed and 11 wounded at 1:46 a.m.; five died at the scene and five in hospital. Motive for the Gauteng attack is unknown.
