Ukraine must support over one million veterans while the war continues

Vitalii Kim, Ukraine’s newly appointed veterans’ affairs minister, says the country must “build the engine while it’s driving the car”: aiding more than one million veterans on a shoestring budget as fighting continues. After four years of war, many face psychological trauma and physical injuries, including tens of thousands with missing limbs; the total could reach three million. Ukraine’s population has fallen from 44 million prewar to under 36 million.
