How Big Tobacco flooded the FDA with public comments to kill a menthol cigarette ban

A Rutgers University study in JAMA Network Open found that 97% of the 175,000 public comments on the FDA’s 2022 menthol cigarette ban proposal were form letters opposing it. Nearly half matched language from Altria or Reynolds American campaigns; only 2% were unique, with most of the rest echoing industry talking points.
