Suicide bombing at Pakistan police compound in Kohat kills at least 16

A suicide car bomb attack on a police compound in Kohat, near the Afghan border, killed at least 16 people and wounded more than 30, according to police. Provincial police chief Zulfikar Hameed said the dead included five police personnel; a rescue official put the toll at five officers, 10 civilians and the attacker. The explosion damaged a mosque where officers, relatives and civilians were praying. Pakistan's president blamed the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP); no group immediately claimed responsibility. Police said at least two other militants tried to storm the facility, sparking a gun battle.
