Netflix greenlights two-season animated Midnight Sun
Netflix has confirmed a two-season animated series based on Stephenie Meyer’s 2020 novel Midnight Sun, which retells the events of Twilight from vampire Edward Cullen’s perspective rather than Bella Swan’s. The original Twilight novel appeared in 2005 and became a 2008 film starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart; Midnight Sun covers the same story, including scenes such as the biology classroom encounter, from Edward’s point of view as he navigates the world as a vampire and falls in love with Bella.
Despite Midnight Sun being a single book, Netflix is stretching the adaptation across two seasons. Casting was underway this summer, and production is reported to run from August 2026 to May 2027. The series is still in development, with no release window announced, even as the franchise continues to draw audiences nearly 20 years after the first film and remains tied to the setting of Forks, Washington.
