Northern Ireland court allows Orange Order march through Catholic area in Portadown

Northern Ireland’s High Court has let the Protestant Orange Order parade through the mainly Catholic Garvaghy Road in Portadown for the first time in 28 years, rejecting residents’ final bid to stop Sunday’s march after the Court of Appeal overturned a Saturday injunction. Crowds gathered early to protest; First Minister Michelle O’Neill of Sinn Fein backed their right to protest and called for calm, while Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly of the DUP urged people to stay away and said threats of violence were unacceptable.
