Trump signs broad Russia sanctions bill passed by wide bipartisan margins

US President Donald Trump signed into law on Friday a package of new Russia sanctions named after the late Senator Lindsey Graham, the White House said. The bill passed Congress with large bipartisan majorities — 86-11 in the Senate and 262-159 in the House — and targets Russian officials, banks, key economic sectors, and the shadow tanker fleet transporting Russian energy. It instructs Trump to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on the top five importers of Russian oil or gas, with some exemptions, and allows sanctions on the five countries most helping Russia circumvent energy sanctions — measures that could strain US trade with China and India. The law also extends the framework for Iran sanctions until 2031. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Trump and lawmakers who supported the bill.
