Scientists identify first new wild cat species in more than a century at a Bolivian sanctuary

Scientists have identified a previously unknown wild cat species living at a wildlife sanctuary in Bolivia, the first new living wild cat species named in over a century. Reported in Current Biology on Thursday, the small spotted feline was found in the Yungas region near La Paz by lead author Paola Nogales-Ascarrunz. The male, about 10 years old, measures 46 centimetres head to tail and weighs 1.4 kilograms, with a light brown coat of dark leopard-like spots.
