Adults with severe mental illness die 15 to 20 years earlier, NHS data shows

An NHS analysis by Rethink Mental Illness finds adults with severe mental illness—those referred to specialist secondary care—are 4.8 times more likely to die before 75 and live 15–20 years less, mainly from preventable physical disease, including sharply higher risks of liver, respiratory, cardiovascular and cancer deaths.
