Last-ditch campaign efforts ahead of US midterm elections
Around 210 million registered voters will decide the balance of power in the United States on Tuesday, November 3, determining control of Congress for the remainder of Donald Trump’s presidency. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 Senate seats are being contested, alongside gubernatorial races in 36 states. The congressional ballot also features special elections in Florida and Ohio to fill seats vacated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance.
Donald Trump has focused his closing campaign push on rallies in Iowa and Kansas, after holding tele-rallies across Florida, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In Kansas, which last elected a Democratic senator in 1932, Republican Senator Roger Marshall is locked in an unexpectedly competitive race against Democrat Adam Hamilton. Economic pressures are also driving outsider bids, such as farmer Hallie Shoffner’s long-shot Senate run in Arkansas.
Campaign spending has reached historic levels, with the top 50 donors pouring $2.77 billion into the midterms, led by Elon Musk’s $446 million for Republican-aligned groups. Beyond deciding domestic legislation and federal spending, the outcome carries major implications for rising far-right movements and diplomatic pressure on Ukraine.
