Ethiopia accuses Eritrea and Sudan of backing Tigray rebels as clashes intensify

Ethiopia's army chief, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, accused Eritrea and Sudan of backing armed groups fighting federal troops as clashes with the Tigray People's Liberation Front intensified. The TPLF says it is waging a defensive war, seized airports, captured the Afar town of Erebti on Sunday and is advancing on Afdeera, 100 kilometres east. At least 150,000 people are estimated displaced in Afar, reviving fears of the 2020–2022 civil war that killed an estimated 600,000.
