"The damage was much worse than I had imagined": the inside story of Salman Rushdie's survival

After Salman Rushdie was stabbed in a horrific attack in August 2022, his wife Eliza Griffiths began filming a video diary of his recovery, one year after their marriage. Clips from that diary appear in a new documentary by Alex Gibney, who drew on the work of playwright Dennis Potter to portray Rushdie's tumultuous life. Griffiths was at home in New York when a frantic friend phoned her with the news of the attack.
