Thousands gather in London to express support for Palestinians after three years of 'genocide'
Thousands marched through central London from the Embankment to parliament in support of Palestinians, carrying "End the genocide" and "Free Palestine" placards and observing a two-minute silence for those killed in Gaza. The Metropolitan Police said 20 people were arrested, including for criminal damage after protesters climbed the Battle of Britain memorial, possessing Palestine Action placards, making a Nazi salute and assaulting officers. The protest called for the UK to halt arms sales to Israel, which the UN, Amnesty International and the Israeli groups B'Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights have accused of genocide. It was the first such march since Ed Miliband declared the UK's position that Israel's occupation of the West Bank is unlawful. Despite a ceasefire declared a year ago, airstrikes have continued and the Gaza death toll has risen by 1,400 in the past year, while UN figures recorded 230 Palestinians killed amid escalating settler attacks in the West Bank.
