Colombia declared a public calamity as a wildfire burned mountains around Villa de Leyva, a colonial tourist town northeast of Bogotá. By Sunday about 290 hectares were affected and the blaze was roughly 50% controlled; evacuations and suspended classes followed. Nearly 20 fires burn nationwide amid dry El Niño conditions, with over 400 responders and four helicopters dropping 240,000 litres of water Sunday.
