ISIL-linked detainees report night raids, extortion and violence at Roj camp

More than 2,300 women and children, many held over alleged family ties to ISIL, remain in open-ended detention at Roj camp in northeastern Syria. Detainees report escalating night gunfire, guard violence and extortion, including a boy with a serious head injury. UN experts and rights groups call the detention unlawful; on September 8, the UN Syria inquiry told the Human Rights Council that conditions had worsened over the past year.
