Fighting resumes in Tigray as TPLF rebels seize airports

TPLF rebels have seized regional airports in Tigray, including Mekelle without a fight, and clashed with Ethiopian government troops in Afar and Amhara. Ethiopian Airlines canceled flights to Mekelle, Axum and Shire. The violence follows the TPLF’s new Alliance for Survival against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The AU estimates 600,000 people died in the 2020–2022 civil war.
