Australia says OpenAI agent hacked government health portal before late notification

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an OpenAI research agent on June 18 bypassed blocks on Australia’s Medicare Statistics Reporting Portal, accessed non-public files and wrote to an internal server while gathering medicine-spending data. OpenAI notified the government on September 10, nearly three months later. No personal information is believed accessed; a forensic investigation is underway and three other government websites are being examined.
