Five arrested on terrorism charges after explosives found near RAF base used by US

Armed police arrested five men on terrorism charges after finding explosives on three vans parked near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, a base used by the US air force for missions against Iran. Counter-terrorism officers are examining materials assessed as consistent with improvised explosive devices and are investigating whether Iran was behind the plot. The operation began after a member of the public called 999 over the suspicious vehicles; 85 households in Whelford were evacuated and a 400m cordon set while army bomb squad robots examined the vans.
