North Korea fires two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles from Wonsan into the East Sea, also called the Sea of Japan, on Sunday. The first, around 3:00pm (06:00 GMT), flew about 450 kilometres; the second, around 5:50pm, more than 600 kilometres (370 miles). Seoul, the United States and Japan tracked the launches days after Pyongyang reaffirmed it is a nuclear-armed state and rejected a UN resolution to halt its nuclear activities. Japan lodged a stern protest.
