On Saturday, during a four-day visit to France, Pope Leo XIV celebrated open-air Mass at the Place de la Concorde near the Champs-Élysées; the Vatican said about 700,000 people attended. He rode the popemobile down the avenue to a white-canopy altar as crowds stretched roughly 2.2 kilometers, with large screens for those farther back. Earlier that day he visited a social center and met adults who had recently been baptized.
