What Palestinian children endure in Israeli detention

Fidaa Zalbani still tidies the untouched room of her son Mohammed, 17, in Shu'fat refugee camp in occupied East Jerusalem. Arrested at 13 in February 2023, he was accused of stabbing a soldier at a checkpoint two weeks after an Israeli soldier killed his friend; a guard's shot killed the wounded soldier, and Mohammed was sentenced to 18 years. For about two years she has been barred from visiting him at Megiddo Prison; a lawyer says child detainees there often sleep hungry, with guards allowing no more than four loaves for 13 prisoners.
