Romania's political deadlock could hand power to the far right, PM nominee warns

Siegfried Mureșan, Romania's third nominee to form a government since the ruling coalition lost a no-confidence vote in May, told POLITICO he will ask the Social Democratic Party to back his National Liberal Party in a new vote by the end of next week. He warned that PSD refusal risks early elections in the EU's seventh-most-populous country, where the far right leads polls, and that a socialist-far right partnership would set a dangerous EU precedent.
