Anthropic launches Claude Opus 5.5, matching Fable 5.1 at about 40% lower cost

Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5, the first model in a new family, saying it matches Claude Fable 5.1 on most tasks while total operating costs run about 40% lower than Opus 5. Pricing is $4 and $20 per million input and output tokens, down from $5 and $25, with cache reads cut 60% and output more than 30% faster; benchmarks put it ahead of Fable 5.1 and OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra on most tasks. Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 are due in weeks.
