Trump says US, Denmark reach deal to expand military presence in Greenland

US President Donald Trump said on Friday he had reached a deal with Denmark to expand the US military presence in Greenland while respecting Danish and Greenlandic sovereignty. Trump said the agreement gives the US "permanent control over security" in Greenland and that his administration will immediately begin building a larger military presence on the mineral-rich Danish territory. Denmark's prime minister Mette Frederiksen said the deal will be signed by all three governments next week at the UN General Assembly, but still requires parliamentary approval in Denmark and Greenland.
