Sonay Kartal defeated Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets, 7-6 (9), 7-6 (5), at the Wuhan Open to advance to the first WTA 1000 final of her career. Playing in only her second tour-level tournament back following a six-month injury layoff, the 24-year-old overcame deficits in both sets and saved six set points.
