Stress on two Southern California faults reaches a 1,000-year high

A 1,000-year simulation found exceptionally high simultaneous stress on Southern California’s San Andreas and San Jacinto faults. Their junction at Cajon Pass may be increasingly primed for a rupture crossing both systems, but the study does not predict when an earthquake will occur.
