Investigators found that an East Midlands train accelerated to 76mph after driver Shaun Burton acknowledged an automatic warning for passing a rarely red signal. Emergency braking cut its speed to 49mph before it hit a stationary Nottingham–London train in June, killing the 60-year-old driver.
